londonCWIn the third week of September, the NIC’s 2015/2016 class went to London for its seventh annual London Field Trip, which plays a key role in the club’s main goal – close the gap between the academic and corporate world. By visiting several banks and investment houses in Europe’s financial hub, NIC members had the opportunity to have a first personal contact and a unique networking experience.

During our time in London we got the chance to visit some of the world’s leading banks such as Citibank, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Nomura, as well as the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock. During these visits the group was able to work in past M&A deals, past debt issuances, participate in networking events and the pleasure to have Q&A sessions with bankers from different areas, from Analysts to Managing Directors. As students pursuing a career in the financial industry, the opportunity to learn more about these companies and gain an insight into the daily life of their professionals was unique. In most of the companies there were NIC and NOVA alumni welcoming us.

Besides, we also had the chance to meet the different HR teams, who provided valuable advices about the recruitment process and on how to prepare to interviews properly, such as what they look for in a candidate and how we should approach the bank.

We believe that as happened in the past years, the trip objectives were accomplished as everyone recognised how valuable the experience was to complement our Masters in Finance and our approach to the Investment Banking job market in London. The trip was also critical to better understand the different cultures and values behind each bank.
